Perth Theatre and Concert Hall have launched the first music headliners for 125 Live! their anniversary street party for Perth.
Leading the music line-up is iconic Glasgow glam-pop band Walt Disco. With their debut album garnering nominations for the Scottish Album of the Year Award and AIM Independent Album of the Year in 2022, the band’s stratospheric rise has seen them perform at Glastonbury, Latitude, Austin City Limits, and SXSW festivals, opening for iconic acts like Simple Minds, Duran Duran, and Primal Scream. Plus, there’s a local angle, in the shape of Perth-raised guitarist Lewis Carmichael!
Further acts now confirmed to perform on the 125 Live! music stage include Skye trad and electronic duo Valtos, Perth indie band Parliamo, dynamic Perthshire piper Ross Ainslie with The Sanctuary Band, singer-songwriter and DJ Jack David and musical theatre stars Hannah Howie and Matthew Tomlinson.
In contrast to a traditional festival system of separate sets, the bands will perform as part of a sequential performance across three live stages running the length of Mill Street from Perth Concert Hall Plaza to Perth Theatre Courtyard on Saturday 6 and repeated on Sunday 7 September. An array of classical, trad, music, musical theatre, and local acts still to be announced will join the music headliners, resulting in a totally unique event specifically created to showcase the wide spectrum of art forms that audiences have enjoyed throughout 125 years of entertainment in Perth.
A street party for Perth, 125 Live! is the climax of a milestone year for Perth Theatre and Concert Hall, with Perth Theatre turning 125 and Perth Concert Hall reaching 20.
In addition to the performances on stage, Mill Street will be animated with cutting-edge projections and special effects, and the show will culminate in a dazzling audiovisual display.
Ensuring a proper street party experience, food stalls will also be on site and a bar service will be available from both venues.
Expressing the very essence of what Perth’s two city centre venues have brought to generations of audiences, participants, artists and supporters, 125 Live! is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join together in a joyous moment of shared celebration.
Christopher Glasgow, Director of Perth Theatre and Concert Hall said:
“Walt Disco are one of the most talked about bands on the Scottish music scene right now, and we are hugely excited that they have agreed to headline 125 Live! Along with the other music headliners just confirmed – Valtos, Parliamo, Ross Ainslie & The Sanctuary Band and Jack David – Walt Disco will form an essential and integral part of our carefully choreographed show. Audiences can expect a spectacular showcase of everything that they love seeing in our venues from musical powerhouses such as our headliners, to familiar classics, energising trad tunes, popular musical theatre numbers and much, much more. The whole Perth Theatre and Concert Hall team, with support from Creative Scotland, Perth & Kinross Council, the Gannochy Trust and Gig On A Truck sponsors St Johnstone FC, are working to deliver what is set to be a truly unique event that will live long in the memory of all those involved.”
Singer-songwriter and DJ Jack David said:
“I’m so excited to be playing at this event, especially as it’s in such a beautiful part of Scotland! We have big plans for the show, I can’t wait to reveal them”
Musical theatre star Hannah Howie said:
“What a privilege to celebrate this iconic space here in the heart of Scotland with the very best of all things musical, theatrical and joyful; roll on the next 125.”
Perthshire musician Ross Ainslie said:
“I’m delighted to be bringing the Sanctuary Band to my hometown of Perth to celebrate 20 years of the concert hall, I played at the opening of the hall so it’s an honour to be asked to play for the 20th!”
